Sarah Bolter

The 1901 Census has Sarah Bolter visiting my grandparents Edward Maynard & Sarah Ann (nee. Goldy) in Wednesbury. She was recorded as “Aunt”.

On checking various family trees there seemed to be much confusion. After more research I have pieced it all together, the confusion arose because John Bolter married twice and both wives were called Sarah.

The mother of Sarah Ann Goldy (my grandmother)  was Mary Ann Freeman (1840-1915). She had a sister Sarah Freeman (b.1837) who would be the aunt of my grandmother Sarah Ann Maynard (nee. Goldy)

Sarah Freeman married John Walker 25/12/1861 in Stratford on Avon. The 1871 and 1881 censuses show them settled in Stratford but with no children. John Walker died in 1887 age 53.  Sarah Walker (nee Freeman) was left a widow.

John Bolter (b.1840) married Sarah Parsons (b.1839) on 20/09/1863 in Stratford on Avon. John & Sarah settled in Stratford and appeared in the 1871 and 1881 censuses but with no children. Sarah Bolter (nee Parsons) died in Stratford early 1888. John Bolter was left a widower.

John Bolter married Sarah Walker (nee Freeman) end of 1888 in Stratford.

John Bolter died in 1894 in Stratford. Sarah Bolter was visiting her niece (Sarah Ann Goldy) for the 1901 census.

She then settled in Wednesbury as did her sister Mary Ann Goldy (nee Freeman).

Sarah died in 1910 in West Bromwich aged 74.
